Increasing the size of your bathroom without tearing down and expanding walls for a major renovation can be a daunting task, but here are some bathroom ideas to increase space and make your tiny bathroom feel more luxurious and comfortable
Adding mirrors to increase space
A bathroom mirror, or more importantly, mirrors can make your bathroom seem infinitely larger when you place mirrors strategically to catch the eye of the viewer from important angles in the bathroom. For a truly psychedelic effect, you could tile the entire bathroom with mirrors, but it’s probably best not to overdo it and give your guests a mind bender, but rather install just a couple of medium to large size mirrors in locations where they will be seen from most frequently
Removing bathroom cabinets
If your bathroom is incredibly tiny, consider taking down wall mounted cabinets to increase the space and figure out a way to become Zen like in your routine. There are a lot of items stored in the bathroom that can be moved to another room to reduce clutter. A cabinet storing bath towels can be taken out and the towels can find a new home in the bedroom. The same goes for a heap of medicine bottles or bulk toilet paper roll purchases that you keep under the bathroom sink. Moving some of these things around may mean a subtle shift in your living routine, but simply remembering to grab a towel before taking a shower is a small trade off for not having a bulky cabinet taking up precious space in a tiny room.
Adding a bathroom skylight
If you get your ideas from sitting in a warm bath, gazing off into space, or perhaps from sitting on the toilet with a furrowed brow, why not have a contractor install a skylight to open the space up and allow for some breathing room? Skylights are a great bathroom idea for letting in heaps of natural light and creating an illusion of expansive space. The next time you are in your tiny bathroom soaking in the tub at night with a skylight above to give you a view of the stars will blow your mind and make your small bathroom seem as infinite as the stars
Installing a glass shower door
Replacing a shower curtain with a glass shower door can have an impact on the perception of your bathroom space by allowing you to see through to the wall, giving you a couple of extra feet of space to look at. A solid shower curtain can make the room feel like it has been cut in half, and there are some very good options to choose from when selecting a glass shower door. Another alternative is to forgo the shower door entirely if you have a tile floor. You can simply create a lip with tile to keep the water contained in the shower area and use a squeegee to quickly mop up any stray water.
